Capping off their amazing year, New York's Scissor Sisters been awarded the title of 'gig of the year' in the UK for their performance at this year's V Festival.

The band topped a poll voted for by listeners of Virgin Radio and beat off stiff competition from the likes of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Keane and Maroon 5.

Commenting on the outcome, Virgin Radio DJ Pete Mitchell said: "This year has seen an amazing array of talent come into the mainstream."
He added: "The Scissor Sisters are one of the most original, eccentric bands to come through and it's no surprise the British public are lapping up their performances."

The top ten gigs of the year in 2004, as voted for by listeners of Virgin Radio, were:

   2. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hyde Park, London
   3. Keane, V Festival
   4. Maroon 5, Brixton Academy
   5. Snow Patrol, Belfast Ulster Hall
   6. Embrace, Royal Court, Liverpool
   7. Oxfam's Make Trade Fair, Hammersmith Apollo, London
   8. The Who, Royal Albert Hall, London
   9. Franz Ferdinand, Glasgow QMU
 10. David Bowie, Isle of Wight Festival
