Foxbase Beta

Journey through the past, part 5.

Rumours have been flying left right and centre, but we can finally confirm that disco dynamo Richard X has taken Foxbase Alpha and re-arranged it into a brand new beast called FOXBASE BETA. Using the original masters, adding cellos, electrix, choirs, and the spirit of Brian Cant he has created something really special - spruced-up yet reverential, it is essentially a 2009 up-date of Foxbase Alpha, given a shot of vodka and a loving caress. We're chuffed. It feels unnervingly like jumping into a Tardis.

FOXBASE BETA will be issued, via the fan club, as a limited, numbered 2CD set of 3,000 copies, which will also include FOXBASE EXTRA, three unreleased recordings from the original album sessions: a just discovered coda to Girl VII (we'd forgotten it existed), a summery instrumental called Richard III, and the first, very different, take of Kiss And Make Up, which was the very first Saint Etienne recording. We cut it one afternoon in January 1990, and then Only Love Can Break Your Heart in the evening! It was all so simple then. These tracks won't be available anywhere else.

There will also be a 'directors' commentary' on the bonus disc. Informative, yes.
Pithy, quite possibly.

An un-numbered, single disc edition will be available at gigs and through Rough Trade. It will also be available for digital download (with the commentary but without the bonus tracks).

For club promo, a 4-track 12" is currently at the pressing plant, including extended Foxbase Beta version of Only Love Can Break Your Heart (plus instrumental mix), the FBB version of Girl VII (grrrreat), and Gothenburg's Balearic princes Air France's mix of Spring. We'll have 200 copies of this available through the fan club. As soon as we have them we'll let you know.

Foxbase Beta will be available to pre-order on Monday 21st of September. More details next week.

England in the World Cup finals, 3 Of A Kind's Babycakes playing on my hi-fi, Foxbase Beta finally put to bed. Late summer, early autumn, and all is good.

13 Sep 2009 - Hue & Cry Update

Hi all,

The Homecoming celebrations, timed to the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns, have been a great year so far for Scotland - and we've done our bit by playing at the Burns Festival in Ayr earlier this year, and at Vogrie Homecoming Festival just recently. So we're particularly proud to be on the main line-up for the major Homecoming gig at Glasgow's SECC on November 28th. It's a scene of some of our greatest triumphs, and it's a delight to be playing the venue again. With so many bands appearing, it will be a brief set but we're sure we'll fit in a Scottish song or two! It should be a fantastic night - so Scottish or not (it's only a state of mind, after all!), we look forward to seeing you there.

Hard on the heels of that gig will be the History City Xmas Weekend shows in Glasgow – which we’re preparing furiously for - and boy do we have some special surprises in store for those attending! In the mean time, pop onto the History City page on the Hue And Cry Music Club and let us know about the songs you'd like us to consider playing, as well as make plans to meet friends (and seek friends!).

And don't forget that every Wednesday on the Music Club at 7pm, there is an hour-long Live Chat on the site with at least one of us Kane brothers. Maybe see you there too!

Pat and Greg

HISTORY CITY XMAS WEEKEND

From today you can purchase individual tickets for the Friday night Piano & Vocal show and the Saturday night full band show separately. VIP Platinum Passes are still available but please note that there will be no separate sale at any time of the ‘extras’ included in the platinum pass package. All ticket links for the History City Xmas Weekend can be found on the Hue and Cry website.

The History City Xmas Weekend - two special Hue and Cry shows over one weekend in their home town of Glasgow at the renowned ABC venue on Sauchiehall Street. Friday 18 December will see Pat and Greg Kane perform an up close and personal piano & vocal performance in the intimate surroundings of the venue’s ABC2 room. Saturday 19 December will see the brothers line up as part of the full seven piece band for a spectacular event in the venue’s main ABC hall.

HUE AND CRY CONFIRMED FOR HOMECOMING LIVE

We are delighted to announce that Hue and Cry have been confirmed to play a brief piano and vocal set at this years grand Homecoming Live concert at the SECC in Glasgow on 28 November. Homecoming 2009 has seen a series of events throughout the year to celebrate all things Scottish, including celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns, culminating in the Homecoming Live concert on St. Andrews day weekend which will see Pat and Greg perform during an event featuring a wealth of Scottish talent.
