29 Sep 2005 - Morrissey / Smiths News

Morrissey has tried to end speculation that he had a gay relationship with former Smiths band mate Johnny Marr.

The rumours have been in circulation since the song writing team joined forces in 1982 when Morrissey was approached by the guitarist.

"There was a love and it was mutual and equal but it wasn't physical,” Morrissey said. "There are lots of people post-Smiths who would like to make some dramatic homosexual story. There never was one. It's often said that Johnny rescued me but he was also bobbing about in his own lifeboat."

Classic Smiths album honoured:

The latest issue of top UK music magazine Q has named The Smiths' 'The Queen Is Dead album as the Most Essential Indie Album in a section dedicated to 'essential albums your record collection must include'.

UK Chart Midweek

I've received a few e-mails from people asking what the midweek chart position is for Crazy. At the time of writing (Wednesday) the midweek position of Crazy is number 24.

If you??are planning to buy the Crazy single (either as the physical formats or the digital downloads via iTunes / HMV / Virgin) then it would be hugely beneficial to do so in this first week of the single release - a top 20 position is tantalisingly close at the moment!

Release date: November 7th, 2005

SonyBMG Music Entertainment (UK) Limited today announced what is positioned to be the record company's most extensive album reissue campaign to date with one of Britain's most influential and successful recording duos in music history - Eurythmics.

All eight Eurythmics studio albums have been digitally re-mastered by Dave Stewart. On average, each album features 4-7 bonus tracks, including one previously unreleased cover version. The reissues are scheduled for UK nationwide release on November 7, 2005. All eight albums will be released separately and as a Collector's Deluxe Boxed Set.

The eight original studio reissue albums will coincide with the CD release 'Eurythmics Ultimate Collection'. The latter is a 'Best Of' compilation of all their hit singles which have been digitally re-mastered. The Ultimate Collection will also include the brand new single 'I've Got A Life' and the song 'Was It Just Another Love Affair?' (the latter two are new songs that were recorded in 2005).

Eurythmics are the UK's most successful duo ever. Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart have sold over 75 million records and had over 20 international hits worldwide. They have achieved unparalleled global commercial and critical success with No.1 singles and albums both sides of the Atlantic and all over the world - the holy grail of any UK act. On top of the sold out world tours Eurythmics have won innumerable awards including 4 Grammy's, 11 BRITS, 5 Ivor Novello's, 1 Oscar, 2 Golden Globes and the Outstanding Contribution to the British Music at the 1998 BRITS.

Eurythmics played a large part in shaping the landscape of 80's and 90's music. The influence spreads wider than being innovators of the synth pop genre they are often credited for. Their songs have been pillaged by the biggest names in music; P.Diddy, Marilyn Manson, Utah Saints, Redman (Wu Tang), Faith Evans and Pink, amongst others. This doesn't include the unofficial usage that's gladly unavoidable within the dance and hip hop genre. Just this summer Ibiza has been lit up with several huge versions of a record first made in 1983 .'Sweet Dreams???'

????

'Eurythmics Ultimate Collection' features 18 hit singles, plus the two new bonus tracks including the forthcoming single 'I've Got A Life' plus the song 'Was It Just Another Love Affair?'. Every track has been painstakingly digitally re-mastered from the original master tapes with Dave Stewart overseeing the mastering process. The result is state-of-the-art Eurythmics classics re-mastered to the highest standard quality possible.

In August 2005, post that critically acclaimed and emotive Live 8 appearance, Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart returned to the studio for the first time in five years to record new material and the forthcoming single 'I've Got A Life'.

This is the first time the iconic duo has worked together since the 1999/2000 album 'Peace' and the tour of the same name, which they dedicated to Greenpeace and Amnesty, from which they donated the profits.

'I've Got A Life' will be released as a single on 31st October and is one of the new tracks included on their forthcoming greatest hits album 'Ultimate Collection' released on 7th November. An instant classic, 'I've Got A Life' is as pioneering and anthemic as 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)', 'Here Comes The Rain Again', or 'There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart)'.

The 'Ultimate Collection' is a tribute to why they are revered as seminal. Included are strong and intelligent pop songs; 'There Must Be An Angel???' and 'Here Comes The Rain Again', hallmarks of the duo. While 'Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves' showcases Annie Lennox's powerful and expressive voice effortlessly combining with Aretha Franklin. On 'Who's that Girl?' and 'Sweet Dreams???' Dave Stewart's innovative production techniques are as fresh today as they were on original release. This album is a must-have in any music collection, offering some of the most significant records of one of the most important acts the UK has ever produced.
