12 Feb 2020 - Maxthor - Fiction

Coming out of Spain in a haze of neon lights, electro synth pulses and eighties rock brilliance is Maxthor, a three piece with a unique and original retro futuristic sound. Forging a broad spectrum of influences, Maxthor take irresistible echoes of eighties giants like Phil Collins, Billy Idol and Survivor and filter them through their own lens of synth driven futurist-nostalgia.

Maxthor's new album 'Fiction' will be out March 13th!

For the song "Inverno" Philippe Cohen Solal had the chance to collaborate with a rare and precious singer, Green Gartside, frontman of the legendary band Scritti Politti, whose album "Cupid & Psyche '85" changed his youth in the 80s and whose sweet and fragile voice foreshadowed James Blake and the likes, 30 years earlier.

This single is taken from the upcoming album "Mind Food" also featuring Chassol, Gabriela Arnon and Nivo Rahoerson

Out February 21, 2020.

23 Jan 2020 - Surrender - Surrender

Surrender is an Ottawa, Canada-based duo consisting of vocalist Scott McCash and multi-instrumentalist Dave Williams, conceived in the grand traditions of the synth-pop duos of the 80s and the moody alt-pop of the 90s.

Prior to Surrender's formation in 2018, Scott and Dave spent much of the 2000s playing in various punk/hardcore acts together and separately, including Crusades, The Creeps, Black Tower and others.

Surrender's self-titled debut full-length is a hopeful rumination on many of the anxieties associated with modern life - loss, love, illness, sexuality, fear, identity, and other such aspects of the human condition at this often-bizarre and troubling point in time.

The album was tracked throughout 2018 and 2019 at the members' home studios in Ottawa, with Alex Gamble (Alvvays, Tasseomancy, Fucked Up, Pup, etc.) producing/mixing at The Hive in Toronto.

The duo's sound draws from the more 'serious' side of 80s / early 90s synth / alt-pop music - specifically Erasure, Tears For Fears, New Order, etc., as well as modern acts like Cold Mailman, Hanne Kolstø and Imogen Heap, while also taking cues from the indie pop, Brit-pop, and Synth / Retrowave worlds.
