Singer Kylie Minogue was named Woman of the Year at a showbiz ceremony. The star was honoured at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards for her inspirational battle against breast cancer. Kylie, 37, could not attend the London bash but sent a message to her fans. "The last year has been my least public but, in many ways, the most," she said. "Your support has been an enormous help and I hope to be back with you all in person very soon."

07 Jun 2006 - Scissor Sisters Back!

Scissor Sisters have confirmed details of their new album, which is called "Tah-dah". The New York pop stars have set a September 18 release date for the record, which is the follow-up to their self-titled breakthrough debut LP.

"Tah-dah" will be preceded by a single, "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'", which is a collaboration with Elton John, one of the band's biggest influences.

Speaking about the new album, which is understood to have just been completed, frontman Jake Shears said the group were determined to get the record right. "I'm completely excited. I feel like I've birthed a baby! That would be the closest thing, it was very weird and painful but I think my baby is really cute! The old rock cliché is very true, it's harder doing a second album, but that's why we took our time with it," said Shears.

07 Jun 2006 - Sugababes: Greatest Hits

Sugababes will release a greatest hits album this Christmas, they have revealed. The pop three-piece are also planning to record a brand new LP this year with new member Amelle Berrabah, who replaced Mutya Buena in 2005.

The group, who released their final new LP with Mutya, "Taller In Many Ways", last year, are also scheduled to play a string of high-profile live shows in the UK this summer.

Revealing plans for the new album and for the remainder of 2006, Heidi Range told the NME: "We're writing the new album now. But we're gonna be supporting Take That on their stadium tour, and we're doing the V Festival, and a few festivals round Europe, and we'll get back to it after that. We've got a greatest hits coming out at Xmas and there's the new album next year," she said.

Sugababes release their new single, "Follow Me Home", this week.

07 Jun 2006 - Morrissey vs The Smiths

Morrissey has again dismissed the idea of The Smiths reforming, claming the rest of the band don't deserve to share a stage with him.

The former singer with the indie legends revealed earlier this year that he'd been offered £5 million to get back together with Johnny Marr, Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke.

However, Morrissey dismissed the plan initially and has now gone on to say he's no longer friends with the other members of The Smiths and sees no point in a reconciliation.
??
"I'm not placed on the Earth to torment ex-musicians. My life is gratifying at the moment musically, so why become part of The Smiths again? What's the point?" he said. "I feel as if I've worked very hard since the demise of The Smiths and the others haven't, so why hand them attention that they haven't earned? We are not friends, we don't see each other. Why on earth would we be on a stage together?" Morrissey asked The Times.

Singing legend Eartha Kitt has revealed she has had colon cancer, it has been reported. The 79-year-old said she was now fine after surgery in April, when the disease was discovered, according to the New York Post. She found out she had the disease after going to the doctor because her hand was hurting from carpal tunnel syndrome. First it was found that she was also anaemic, and then further tests discovered the cancer.

"They operated right away, and I'm fine," Kitt told the newspaper. She added: "I never expect anything to happen to me. I'm the healthiest person in the world." She also advised everyone to get a colonoscopy, and said she was happy still to be working. "It makes me feel grateful that I'm still wanted. Anyway, what would I retire to?" she added.

The star begins a month-long residency at New York's famous Cafe Carlyle on Tuesday.

She also said she was pleased that singer Beyonce had reportedly taken an interest in starring in a biopic about her life.
