2CD+DVD and expanded 2LP vinyl

Cherry Red will reissue Marc Almond‘s 1988 album The Stars We Are in January next year.

Almond’s fourth album featured the singles ‘Tears Run Rings’, ‘Bitter-Sweet’ and most notably his cover of Gene Pitney’s ‘Something’s Gotten Hold Of My Heart’. The duet version of that song with Gene Pitney was of course an enormous hit, reaching number one in the UK for four weeks in early 1989.

The 2CD+DVD reissue features the album, B-sides, remixes and promo videos. CD 1 features the album and the original two CD bonus tracks (‘The Frost Comes Tomorrow’ and ‘Kept Boy’). Interestingly, the reissue doesn’t maintain the solo version of ‘Something’s Gotten Hold Of My Heart’ (which was what was on the original album) but switches it for the duet ‘hit’ version, with the solo version relegated to CD 2. The first disc is completed with B-sides ‘Everything I Wanted Love To Be’, ‘King of The Fools’ and ‘Real Evil’.

CD 2 features “all known” extended and remix versions of the album tracks and the DVD (which is PAL, region 0) collects all six promo videos including the Tim Pope-directed ‘Bitter-Sweet’ and the alternate U.S. version video of ‘Tears Run Rings’ as directed by Peter ‘Sleazy’ Christopherson.

The packaging is one of those soft-pak ‘capacity wallets’. It comes with a 36-page booklet featuring sleeve notes and lyrics.

In addition to the 2CD+DVD set there is an expanded 2LP vinyl package with the bonus LP offering the CD bonus tracks and B-sides along with a few key remixes.

This expanded reissue of The Stars We Are will be released on 22 January 2021.

27 Oct 2020 - Introducing: Wet Sunset

Somewhere between northern lights and palm trees: that is where Wet Sunset comes from.

The brand new Franco-Swedish electro-pop trio delivers a moody and flamboyant first EP (A Deep Blue Swimming Pool - out on Aztec Records in October) in the spirit of Chromatics, FKA Twigs or Fever Ray

Description:
Signing on Aztec Records is first of all a great joy for us because it means getting recognition and support! Plus the fact that Aztec Records is an international London based label just gives us that extra pride and ego boost.

Singing on Aztec Records is also the result of a year long working progress. We’ve spent hours and hours in the studio messing around with these songs and getting our music out on a label is simply super satisfying... also meaning that we will be able to reach out for new fans.

The three of us have very different musical backgrounds and taste but we all share the same love for artists like Fever Ray or Chromatics and more widely known artists like Erik Satie, Ariel Pink, Morrissey or Pixies.

Concerning the A Deep Blue Swimming Pool (EP):
In terms of sound and texture, we wanted to create something intense and shiny yet deep and nuanced, a sort of contrast between the brightness of the northern light and the mildness of a southern dusk. The lyrics are purely and simply the transcription of fertile dreams or hallucinogenic experiences that can be interpreted as little journeys behind a kaleidoscopic screen: introspection, meditation, contemplation and distortion of space and time...

Fanny, Alex & Fredrik O. aka Wet Sunset.

Kylie Minogue has announced details of a one-off livestream gig.

Kylie: Infinite Disco takes place on November 7 and promises to take viewers "through a parallel universe from solitary isolation to an alternative euphoric dance-floor community of togetherness".

The 50-minute performance will feature many tracks from Kylie's new album DISCO, released on November 6, as well as plenty of Kylie classics that have been "specially re-arranged" for the event by the singer's regular collaborators Biff Stannard and Steve Anderson.

"It's hard to call it a concert," Kylie told Metro newspaper of the show. "I think of it as a performance as there is no crowd. There's no response to what you are doing. But it will be a very exciting way to present a lot of the new music and a few old hits."

The virtual spectacular, helmed by Kylie and co-directed by Kate Moross and Rob Sinclair, ends in a future time and place where we can, in Kylie’s words from her recent single Say Something, "all be as one again".

Choreography has also been created by Ashley Wallen, another longrime Kylie collaborator also known for his work on The Greatest Showman.
