Blur bassist Alex James and Blue Peter's Konnie Huq have signed up to present the comeback of music show The Tube.

The groundbreaking programme, which propelled hosts Paula Yates and Jools Holland to fame, is returning on the radio 19 years after it was last broadcast on Channel 4.

The Tube gave Wet Wet Wet, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Housemartins and the Fine Young Cannibals their first breaks, and featured Madonna's debut UK TV performance.

The original programme ran for five series between 1982, the year Channel 4 was launched, and 1987.

It is being resurrected on Channel 4's web-based radio service, launched in preparation for a digital licence bid to create competitors to the BBC's radio stations.

Newcomer Emily Rose, 22, who has presented on MTV and appeared in several Hip Hop videos, will be joining Huq and James on the weekly show.

The Tube will be presented in Manchester in front of a live studio audience and will feature a mix of new and unsigned acts and established names.

The Tube was home to Eighties bands such as The Boomtown Rats, REM, Elvis Costello, The Smiths, U2 and Wham, and became famous for the flirtatious interview style of Yates, who once persuaded Sting to remove his trousers.

Blur bassist James, 37, said: "I'm very excited to be presenting the new Tube. I'm looking forward to being part of something unpredictable. The programme will be intelligent and funny, serious and irreverent. This is a completely new recipe for radio. Mix a whole bucket of music show with a tablespoon of contemporary art, a teaspoon of rocket science and a pinch of bottom. Stand well back and listen for an hour."

Siouxsie And The Banshees - The Peel Sessions (EURO CD)

Voices On The Air: The Peel Sessions features 19 tracks recorded for John Peel between 1977 and 1981. Their first two sessions for John went on to form the bulk of The Scream and was the first airing of Hong Kong Garden, the track that crashed into the top 10 when the band finally released their debut single.
_________________________________

Out of all the bands to emerge from the original UK punk scene and later the post punk and goth rock scenes, Siouxsie and the Banshees still remain one of the most influential. Quite simply, they were magnificent.

John Peel was the only DJ to play Punk and was genuinely baffled by the fact that Siouxsie and the Banshees were unsigned, unsuccessfully attempting to get them a deal with BBC Records.??

Their first two sessions for John went on to form the bulk of their first album 'The Scream' and was the first airing of 'Hong Kong Garden', the track that crashed into the top 10 when, having secured a deal with Polydor, the band finally released their debut single.

The band went on to record another 3 sessions for John featuring tracks that would appear on 'Join Hands', 'JuJu' and 'Tinderbox'. By then the world had turned, Siouxsie and the Banshees were playing sell out tours and were play-listed on day time Radio 1.

Justin Timberlake has announced details of an enormous tour of America, with plans for a full global jaunt also in the pipeline.
The pop superstar played a series of intimate 'club' shows earlier this year, to promote his new album, "FutureSex / LoveSounds". He has now confirmed a total of 34 new arena concerts, with support from Pink, commencing in January in San Diego and completing at the end of March in New Jersey.

Timberlake, who will tour with a 14-piece band, is also expected to confirm a further 60 gigs elsewhere in the world in the coming weeks, according to Billboard.

Speaking about the tour in a statement, Justin said: "I've been rehearsing the band, getting the show ready and tight. "What do we got? Ten dancers, 14 band members, a million tricks up my sleeve, a crazy light show - and I might even show up. So that's pretty exciting. No, seriously, come out. I'll see you guys there."

Justin Timberlake releases a new single, "My Love", on November 13.

George Michael has given a revealing interview to mark 25 years in the spotlight. In his only interview to mark his 25 years in music, George discussed his work, his sexuality, the press and marijuana.

The singer recently hit the headlines after being caught asleep at the wheel of his car. He told The South Bank Show's Melvyn Bragg: "If I'd drunk as much as I'd smoked, my god I'd look like Keith Richards." Further cementing his rock 'n' roll image, he commented: "Led Zeppelin are my favourite rock group of all time - they sound like they know how to have sex." But, showing he still has a serious side, he said of his anti-war song: "As the years go by, Mr Blair is making Shoot The Dog a word perfect protest song."

The secretive star agreed to let The South Bank Show have access to rehearsals for his first live tour in 15 years. George Michael: I'm Your Man airs on October 31 at 10pm.
