THE SMITHS
are to have an academic conference dedicated to their music and lyrics. The conference is being organised by the Metropolitan University in the band's hometown of Manchester to 'examine the cultural message of the band'. Papers to be presented will include one by an Irish academic on 'Subjectivity, Suicide and the Smiths', while one from Oslo University will concentrate on the poetry of a single song, 'The Boy with the Thorn in his Side'.

THE HUMAN LEAGUE's classic 'Don't You Want Me' has been covered by the unlikely duo of Garbage's Shirley Manson and Marilyn Manson although it seems unlikely the song will ever be released, Shirley Manson saying "It's really cool but neither of us felt comfortable enough putting it on our records, so I don't know if it will ever come out".

SIOBHAN FAHEY has lined up a number of dates in April, May and June. The former BANANARAMA and SHAKESPEAR'S SISTER singer will undertake a combination of band PA's and DJ dates. See GIGS on the website for all the dates.

will headline Cornwall's 'Springloaded Festival' on May 26th at Truro's Hall For Cornwell, where they will be supported by BILLY BRAGG.

THE MISSION

HAPPY MONDAYS

THE PROCLAIMERS are continuing to add shows to their 2005 schedule, including their first ever shows in Dunoon, Campbeltown, St Andrews, Aviemore and Galashiels in June and July as well as a rare London show. The band are currently working on a new album scheduled for August release.

In case you didn't know - the brand new Erasure single is out this week in the UK!!

Released on the 2 CDs and 1 DVD single formats, this release features the superb Piney Gir and Radio mixes of 'Don't Say You Love Me', which simply *have* to be heard - as well the thumping A Touch Of Class and Mark Moore mixes.

Plus of course you get to see the entire bizarre video on the DVD!

Clips etc as always can be found here:
