Kylie Minogue has toppled Kate Moss from Glamour magazine's best-dressed list. The 38-year-old pop princess was awarded the number one spot for her sophisticated new look after time away from the spotlight recovering from breast cancer. Kylie was 26th in last year's list.

Glamour editor Jo Elvin said: "We've seen a newer, softer-looking Kylie emerge this year. She's still sexy, but she's not flaunting that side of herself in gold hotpants any more." The Australian star has adopted a Parisian chic look since moving to the French capital with boyfriend Olivier Martinez. But she hasn't abandoned her showgirl style altogether - the singer is currently wowing British fans on her comeback tour with a succession of spectacular outfits.

Victoria Beckham has risen to second place in this year's list. Over the past year she has ditched the WAG look in favour of high fashion. Nicole Richie is third despite flaunting her stick-thin frame. David Beckham was crowned best dressed man.

Morrissey is in talks to write and perform Britain's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest, the BBC reported. The news revealed Tuesday raised eyebrows among the former Smiths frontman's fans, since Eurovision is famed for its cheesy, upbeat entrants, past winners include Abba, Celine Dion, or Brotherhood of Man with "Save all Your Kisses for Me."

By contrast, Morrissey, whose hits include "Girlfriend In A Coma" and "Everyday Is Like Sunday," is an anti-monarchist vegetarian whose guitar-driven songs often focus on bleak social commentary.

The 47-year-old star, who has forged a successful solo career since the Smiths split in 1987, first hinted at his interest in taking part after last year's British entrant came fifth from last.

"I was horrified but not surprised to see the UK fail. Why didn't they ask me?" he reportedly said.

Eurovision pits countries from across the continent against each other in a competition to find which nation has written the best song. Although easy listening tunes have traditionally been the most successful, last year's winners were Finnish hard rock band Lordi, who performed wearing studded leather, capes and brandishing an axe. A BBC spokeswoman confirmed they were in talks with Morrissey ahead of this year's competition in May, but added "nothing is confirmed at the moment."

A spokeswoman for Morrissey's record label, Sanctuary, added: "They sent him an invitation to take part in it.... I don't know if he's moved that forward."

Last year, the video for the star's single "You Have Killed Me" featured a pastiche of the Eurovision competition in the 1970s.

If Morrissey did want to become Britain's contestant for this year's competition in May, he would have to be selected by the public during the qualifying stages.

R.E.M. will be one of five artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at a ceremony on March 12th in New York City at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. The band will be inducted along with Patti Smith, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, The Ronettes, and Van Halen. Artists are eligible for inclusion in the Hall 25 years after the release of their first recording. R.E.M., eligible in its first year of nomination, released "Radio Free Europe" on Hib-Tone Records in July 1981.

"Our strength seems to be looking forward...(to) the next song or the next record or the next video and the next tour and trying to continue doing good and sometimes great work," Michael Stipe told Billboard.com from London, where he, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and manager Bertis Downs were meeting to talk about plans for R.E.M.'s next album. "So it's really an honor that someone took the time to look backward and to kind of recognize what we've done in our past, 'cause we're really crappy at it."

In addition to being honored at the ceremony on March 12, 2007, each artist who is inducted is commemorated within the I.M. Pei-designed museum in Cleveland, Ohio. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame displays the signature of each inductee inscribed in glass. In addition, there is an exhibit of artifacts from this year's inductees, and a multi-media film presentation with highlights from each artist's career. The exhibit on this year's inductees will open in March, 2007 and will run for one year.
