On 17th June, British pop-soul group The Blow Monkeys will release new single The Penny Drops, the first track to be released from the band's upcoming new album Birdsong.

The Penny Drops is quintessential Blow Monkeys. From Neville Henry's hallmark sax intro straight into lead singer Dr Robert's soulful plea on the euphoric chorus, it has the unmistakable sound that marks them out as true originals. With extra funk provided by drummer Crispin Taylor (Galliano) and the inimitable Mick Anker (bass, Bowler hat and sideburns) it has all the hallmarks of being the group's latest classic pop statement.

Dr Robert says, "The Penny Drops is about acknowledging that it often takes a lifetime to learn some very simple things. One of the joys of getting older is not giving a fuck so much about what some people think; becoming yourself and moving away from ego driven adolescent impulses."

The Blow Monkey's thirteenth studio album 'Birdsong' is set for release on 15th August via Creation Youth, the British independent record label launched by Alan McGee - the Creation Records founder who famously signed artists like Oasis, Primal Scream and My Bloody Valentine and producer and Killing Joke bassist Martin 'Youth' Glover.
