It's time to remember...

Scritti Politti's debut album, Songs To Remember, is finally returning to vinyl. Repressed and released on 10 April, the new edition has been fully remastered by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios, a process personally overseen by Green Gartside.

The reissue will feature an embossed sleeve, including a pictogram of a bee, in line with the original 1982 pressing. The album will also be available on digital and CD formats again. Songs To Remember was originally released by Rough Trade Records, and the label have overseen this new edition.

"Mark E Smith, a Rough Trade artist at the time, once said to me, 'Scritti Politti have the best rhythm section in rock music,'" explains the label's founder Geoff Travis. "He didn’t mention Green Gartside, so I don’t know what he thought of him. I do know that at Rough Trade we were all in thrall to Green Gartside’s honeyed voice and his brilliant lyric writing. These were heady days when the amount of sheer talent walking into the Rough Trade universe was simply overwhelming. None more so than Green Gartside who epitomised the intelligent assault on the citadel of pop music perfection. I remember being very proud of Songs To Remember during a time when it was still a fairly new experience for us to be releasing full albums into the world".
