22 May 2006 - New Singles

??

'Who Knew'
is the excellent second single from Pink’s latest album 'I'm Not Dead', following the smash hit 'Stupid Girls'. Produced by Max Martin (Kelly Clarkson, Backstreet Boys), this radio friendly track mixes upbeat jangly guitar hooks with Pink's trademark gravely rock vocals to create a heart-felt tribute to a friend lost to the perils of drugs.

Shaping up to be one of the singles of the year, 'Meanteater' marks the spectacular return of Nelly Furtado. Co-written between Nelly and hip hop uber-producer Timbaland, 'Maneater' finds Nelly once again going against the grain with a colourful, innovative pop anthem, which is taken from her primarily beat-driven forthcoming album, 'Loose'.

??

??

'A Lively Mind'
is Paul Oakenfold's second artist album and his second for Perfecto Records. The album continues the tradition of employing unique vocalists as the kick-off track and first single 'Faster Kill Pussycat' displays. Its perhaps the most unique and somewhat shocking of the album when it comes to guest singers. The song which started life as a rock tune features the astounding singing talents of Brittany Murphy.

Having taken his time to write and regroup, Chicane returns to deliver another killer hit single which is why he has teamed up with ultimate music legend Tom 'the voice' Jones. Lending his celebrated chords to the record Tom adds a surprising and powerful hard edge to an already devastating track.

Following the release of the 'Sacremento EP' in November, Deep Dish are set to release 'Dreams'. It's the track everyone's been waiting for and features new vocals from Stevie Nicks. 'Dreams' has been a staple of Deep Dish's DJ sets in Ibiza and beyond, and a firm favourite from their album 'George Is On'.

Finland was the surprise winner of the 51st Eurovision song contest on Saturday with the monster-themed rock band Lordi beating 23 other competitors. Lordi scored 292 points from telephone voters in 38 countries with its song "Hard Rock Hallelujah" in a performance in Greece that both shocked and amused viewers.

Finishing in second place was Russia with 248 points going to Dima Bilan's "Never let you go". Bosnia was third with 229 points going to the group Hari Mata Hari singing the melodic "Layla". Performances featured a wide range of styles from disco and rap to ethnically inspired tunes.

The Finnish band thanked viewers for voting for their song, which featured the lead singer hoisting a double-headed axe over his head in a performance inspired by 1970s rock band Kiss. "What this has shown is that there are different styles of music than just pop and rock," Mr Lordi, the lead singer of the band, told a news conference. "That should be the goal of Eurovision."

Although widely associated with kitsch and trite lyrics in the west of the continent, the annual contest has drawn increasing interest from viewers in eastern Europe. The Eurovision contest was broadcast live across Europe with an estimated 100 million viewers tuning in and some 25,000 visitors and journalists arriving in Athens for the event.

22 May 2006 - Boy George Sentenced

??
??????
Boy George must work in an Aids hospice as part of his sentencing for wasting police time. The former Culture Club icon was given a five day community service order in March, after police found 13 bags of cocaine in his flat last year.

Having avoided a possible prison sentence of around five years, the star, real name George O'Dowd, will now be required to fulfil his sentence in the undisclosed hospice.

George, 44, had earlier spoken of a fear that he would be asked to collect rubbish in New York City, in full gaze of the public and paparazzi. However, he appears to have been involved in the details of his sentence, commenting: "You can choose things so I'm going to work in a hospice which is good."
